The KNOW-HUB project

KNOW-HUB bridges the gap of shortage of knowledge, skills and experience of European regions in designing and implementing smart and effective strategies for innovation. The practitioners from 10 EU regions will collaborate in reviewing their policies and practices to identify issues for improvement and good practices to share with others. They will learn together how to apply the knowledge and experience identified in the peer review process, and sharing this knowledge with the aid of modern knowledge management tools.

Being an external expert for the validation of the RIS3 process and advising the organisation in charge of the design of the RIS3 is an interesting and exciting task. Indeed, it allows one to offer outside views on its design and its content and to advise where to look at in order to find inspiration for doing things differently. It also allows taking part in brainstorming exercises to overcome bottlenecks. I had the privilege to work with the Canary Islands (ES) and Nord-Pas-de-Calais (FR).

On March 20th, the regions of Catalonia (ES), Skåne (SE) and Aquitaine (FR) have shown what "Smart Specialisation Strategies" really means in practice. The regions were invited by the Cabinet of Commissioner Hahn to present their strategies to the Commission, as they are considered as leading lights for other regions on how they can create their smart specialisation strategies.
